Step 2: Form A Team
Developing a program to address the needs of your employees is most effective and sustainable when a committee approach is used.
The purpose of your Mother-Friendly committee is to bring in diverse perspectives, increase buy-in, and provide details and insight for program logistics. It is important to include decision-makers on the committee as well as other people who have an interest in the program, such as a human resource specialist, wellness coordinator, subject matter expert (a person who has knowledge about breastfeeding support and/or health promotion), facilities manager, current and previous breastfeeding and/or parenting employees, and pregnant employees.
Key steps in forming your committee:
- Recruit members and assign roles within the committee.
- Designate a coordinator.
- Set clear expectations and guidelines.
- Plan and hold regular, purposeful meetings.
